Banaue Rice Terraces, Philippines Natural Attractions That You Must Visit
Banaue Rice
Terraces or terraced rice fields that soar with a height of more than a
thousand meters are located in the highlands of Luzon, precisely on Mount
Ifugao, Philippines. This amazing relic is called the eighth wonder of the
world.
This terrace is estimated
to have been made by hand and simple equipment around 2000 years ago. The
Banaue Terrace has an area of 10,360 square kilometers with a height of 1500
meters above sea level. This makes it the highest terrace in the world and
slopes exceeding 50 percent in some parts. It is said that if each section is
lined up straight, the total length can reach ten times the Great Wall of
China, even reaching 20,000 kilometers or half the circumference of the earth.
Amazing
In 1995 this rice
field was made a UNESCO world heritage site. Restoration and conservation
efforts were carried out on a large scale in the 2000s to help preserve this
site. Now, the Banaue Terrace is one of the most popular tourist attractions in
the Philippines, especially in the Luzon region.
The presence of
Banaue Rice Terraces is a combination of the beauty and shrewdness of the
makers. Each rice field is fenced off by bunds and supported by stone walls,
lined up to follow the contours of the mountains. Some slopes are concave, some
are convex. This rice field irrigation system has been arranged in such a way
by the makers. By utilizing the flow of water from the forest above the rice
fields, they have no difficulty in meeting the needs of the plants in these
fields for water.
Clean air, stunning
scenery, quite challenging terrain and increasing adrenaline are the main
attraction for anyone who visits there.
To be able to enjoy
this extraordinary view, you can take the Jakarta-Manila route by plane, then
continue by road to Banaue with a distance of about 9-10 hours. Transport fares
range from 470 pesos to 530 pesos. During your visit, you can spend the night
at the Eurotel Baguio for around 17 dollars or at the Prince Plaza Hotel for
around 16 dollars per night. Besides visiting Banaue Rice Terraces, you can
also visit Baguio Botanical Garden, The Bridal Veil Waterfall, or Tubbatahaa
Reef.
